PE at Rushey Green
We believe that Physical Education plays a vital role in every child’s development. Through our partnership with Moving Matters, we provide a high-quality, engaging PE curriculum that supports children to become confident, active and healthy individuals.
Our PE curriculum (see below) is carefully designed to follow the National Curriculum, which aims to help pupils develop competence in a broad range of physical activities, stay active for sustained periods, and lead healthy, active lives.
PE lessons are inclusive, enjoyable and structured to ensure that all children experience success, regardless of their starting point. Through Moving Matters, pupils take part in a wide range of activities including:
- Team sports such as football, basketball and tag rugby
- Individual activities such as gymnastics, dance and athletics
- Skill-based learning focused on coordination, balance and movement
- Outdoor and adventurous activities that promote teamwork and resilience
This variety ensures children experience a broad and balanced curriculum while developing a lifelong love of physical activity.
The curriculum is designed as a clear learning journey from Early Years through to Year 6:
- Early Years & Key Stage 1
Children develop fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping, throwing and balancing. These essential building blocks support all future physical activity. - Key Stage 2
Pupils build on these foundations by applying their skills in games and sports, learning tactics, improving performance and working collaboratively with others.
Across all year groups, children revisit and build on key skills, ensuring steady progression and growing confidence over time.
PE is about more than physical skills, through our curriculum, children learn:
- The importance of a healthy, active lifestyle
- Resilience, teamwork and respect
- Confidence to try new activities and challenge themselves
- How to evaluate and improve their own performance
We aim to ensure every child leaves our school with the skills, knowledge and motivation to stay active for life.
